Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth With These Candy-Inspired Beers

Does it get any better than candy and beer? Apparently, yes – it’s candy in beer. A number of brewers around the country are making candy-inspired ales, and I’m not sure if they’re making me hungry or thirsty. Either way, here are some of the most delicious ones we could find.

Caldera Toasted Coconut Chocolate Porter

Made with toasted coconut chips and liquid chocolate, Caldera says this dark porter is a dessert in a glass. With 6.2 percent ABV, this beer will get you a little buzzed and makes a perfect companion for your favorite coconutty dessert.

DuClaw Brewing Co. Sweet Baby Jesus

You had us at “Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.” Yes, this exists. DuClaw’s brew is a rich black color, with a creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. According to the brewer’s website, this beer has a lightly sweet and malty flavor, accented by chocolate, coffee and peanut butter. Sip it with your favorite chocolatey treat, or with a classic PB&J.
P.S.: DuClaw also makes Sweet Baby Java, which has coffee in it, too.

Flying Dog Caramel Lager

This seasonal brew is made in collaboration with Fisher’s Popcorn and has a caramel malt flavor with a crisp finish. Pair it with caramel popcorn for a sweet and salty combination.

Peppermint Ballast Point Victory at Sea

This imperial porter from Ballast Point is made with coffee, vanilla and peppermint – perfect for anyone who loves that iconic minty-chocolate combo. They brew their signature Imperial Porter with Caffe Calabria coffee to create a unique brew that pairs deliciously with crumbly cheese or creamy tiramisu.

Rogue Hazelnutely Choctabulous

Calling all Nutella lovers! In addition to the fun name, this ale reportedly tastes like a candy bar in a bottle. Rogue makes this beer by blending their chocolate stout with hazelnut brown nectar – it’s perfect for pairing with chocolatey, nutty desserts (duh!) or an indulgent steak dinner.

Saugatuck Brewing Co. Starburst Wheat

Chocolate not up your alley? Give this Michigan brewery’s tart, fruity beer a taste. Reviewers praise its fruity taste, commenting on bright notes of citrus and tropical fruit. The relatively low 5.1 percent ABV makes this a refreshing sipper for a warm day.

Victory Brewing Co. Sour Monkey

If you love Sour Patch Kids or Sour Skittles, give this “tastefully tart” beer a try. This pilsner has a lemony aroma and dry finish – the perfect complement to your favorite mouth-numbing candies.
