We have British Vice Admiral Edward Vernon to think for our next installment of ‘hot cocktails.’ His nickname was Old Man Grog and he was known for “taking care” of his men as they sailed around the globe. And by “taking care” we mean he always packed his ship with booze! A boozy ship did serve a purpose. Alcohol can prevent scurvy, which means a healthy crew!
We’re giving the Brits a big thumbs up on this 1700s cocktail, and below is our modern version of The Grog!
What ya need.
1 oz dark rum
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz of citrus juice(lemon or lime)
1 tablespoon of honey
1 cup boiling hot water
Garnish with a twist of lemon or orange
Now mix it up and off to the races!
