A Few Genius Brewers Created this Krispy Kreme-Infused Beer

Hold the phone: Krispy Kreme-infused beer?! Yep – someone decided to add the iconic glazed doughnuts to beer, and we’re not mad about it.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, two Florida breweries (Hidden Spring Ale Works and Arkane Aleworks) joined forces to make a Russian imperial stout brewed with Krispy Kreme doughnuts. And they went above and beyond the call of duty making one batch with the classic glazed variety and another batch with cream-filled Krispy Kreme.

The beers reportedly have a “roasty, chocolatey” flavor, and clock in at a super boozy 12.5 percent ABV. Hidden Springs founder Josh Garman is hoping to “get some of the glaze from the Krispy Kremes to come through,” and hopefully get some of that authentic doughnut flavor too.

Russian imperial stouts typically have coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt flavors, and are dark in appearance – so I’m thinking that swapping this beer with your morning coffee is an excellent idea.

The Times makes a good observation about the two breweries, they’re both no strangers to brewing with dessert flavors. Arkane has brewed with Peeps and 7-Eleven doughnuts in the past, and Hidden Springs sells signature brews that incorporate chocolate and peanut butter, as well as a Gatorade-infused Berliner Weiss.

These guys aren’t the first geniuses to think of creating a brew inspired by America’s favorite round pastry. New England favorite Dunkin’ Donuts made headlines in December for their limited edition DDark Roasted Brew, a “decadent stout-style beer” brewed with Dunkin’s dark roast coffee beans. It reportedly tasted best when paired with one of the brand’s double chocolate cake doughnuts.

The beer is now available in bottles and on tap, and for the opening day they’ll be giving out “hand-crafted donut rimmed pours so you can enjoy the full realm of sticky donut flavors.” Ummm, YUM! The brew seems to be named “Donut Quote Me On This Imperial Donut Stout.” Not bad, not bad.
