5 Wines Inspired by Your Favorite TV Shows

The Bachelor/The Bachelorette

Who needs a swoon-worthy bachelor to hand them a rose when they can buy themselves wine? (Which is, really, a much more practical gift.) The three Bachelor and Bachelorette-inspired bottles include the aptly named The Final Rose Rosé, the Fantasy Suite Cabernet Sauvignon and the One on One Chardonnay. We’d recommend food pairings, but we know all you need is some old-fashioned reality TV show drama.

Game of Thrones

Channel your inner Cersei with Game of Thrones wine (and the price tags are certainly aimed at the Lannisters — the Cabernet will set you back $50) made by Bob Cabral — check him out. He’s notable for California’s first 100-point Pinot Noir from the Williams Selyem Estate Vineyard — the range includes a red blend, said Cabernet and a Chardonnay. With the Cab, expect a smooth wine infused with cocoa, vanilla and blackcurrant. The creamy Chardonnay is best for when you’re feeling as elegant as the Mother of Dragons, and the red blend is fruit-forward and robust, perfect with feasts to rival those of the Seven Kingdoms.

NPR

We all tell ourselves we’re going to listen to NPR, but drinking NPR-inspired wines is almost the same thing, right? In the spirit of All Things Considered comes All Grapes Considered, a Malbec from Argentinian wine royalty the Zuccardi family. The Weekend Edition Cabernet Sauvignon sounds like the stuff for when you want to spend a Friday night sounding intellectual and clever, while the Uncorked Merlot comes from a fourth-generation California family. Even better? This wine goes to a good cause: proceeds will help fund public radio.

  Saturday Night Live

Live from New York… it’s your new Saturday night plans. No matter your favorite sketch or favorite character to quote after you’ve had a glass or two, SNL’s wine collection has something for everyone (and it’s pretty creative with its varietals, too).  Stefon fans can enjoy a French Beaujolais (a fruity red with hints of blueberry and black pepper). There’s a Monterey County Merlot if you talk about taking the Ten as much as The Californians, and a southeastern Australian Chardonnay if you relate to Debbie Downer on a spiritual level. Never miss the cold open? The California red blend Live From New York might be your speed.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

I thought happiness was discovering 30 Rock, but then Tina Fey brought Titus Andromedon into our lives. The music video for “Peeno Noir” remains one of my favorite music videos of all time, but Tituss Burgess, the man behind one of TV’s best characters, released an actual Pinot Noir. His 2014 wine line included a Pinot Noir, a “Rosé Pride,” and a “Pinot Pride” (more red fruit-forward, with accents of honey and cacao).

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead might be filled with, well… dead people, but that hasn’t stopped it from bringing new life to wine labels. Not only have TV network AMC and wine brand Lot18 released a wine collection, but they’ve harnessed the novelty of augmented reality to create “Living Wine Labels.” Using an app, winos and fans alike can watch the labels transform into fights between zombies and people who could probably really use a drink. The three varietals each pay homage to one of the characters. The dark fruit-driven Daryl Dixon Cabernet Sauvignon is intended for hearty meals, while the Rick Grimes Petite Sirah bears notes of bacon, black pepper and blue fruit. For a bold wine with notes of dark chocolate and caramel, opt for Negan’s Bourbon Barrel Red Blend.
