Hot Cocktails: Irish Coffee

Can we get Joe Sheridan in the house?! Probably not. But we do have Mr. Sheridan (a head chef in Foynes, Ireland) to thank for this boozy hot cocktail.

This concoction was born as American passengers made their way to Ireland on a brutally cold winter evening in the 1940s. To battle the cold, Sheridan spiked the coffee with whiskey and dubbed the drink “Irish Coffee.”

Without further ado, the recipe for a perfect Irish Coffee:

1.5 ounces Jameson Irish Whiskey
1 ounce brown sugar syrup
5 ounces freshly brewed hot coffee
Unsweetened whipped cream

COMBINE whiskey, brown sugar syrup and coffee in a mug. Stir gently.

TOP with whipped cream and serve hot.

Thanks for the post. I’ve just tried Hot Irish Coffee. You made my day. It’ll be my favourite from now on. Thanks WA.

To make it correctly, you have to layer it, coffee, then whiskey (it will blend) then gently spoon in the cream, whipped (not the can). That will make the drink shown. Let the cream cascade into the drink. Repeat often for best results…
