Hot Cocktails: 10 Minute Hot Toddy

hot-toddy_8,jpg

We have Robert Bentley Todd to thank for the piping cocktail we know as the Hot Toddy.  The Irish physician became known for prescribing his patients the warm elixir and many believe the cocktail can heal symptoms of the common cold with “the vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe, the alcohol to numb” according to Victoria Moore’s How to Drink.

Below we have a a basic version of the adult beverage – play around with the it and add to it your favorites to enjoy on this winter’s bitter cold nights!

1 ounce bourbon (we recommend Maker’s Mark, affordable and still deluxe)
1 tablespoon honey
Fresh lemon juice, to taste
Twisted lemon peel and cinnamon stick, to garnish

Makes 1 cocktail

COMBINE the bourbon, honey and lemon juice in your favorite mug. Set aside.

BOIL 1/4 water. Once it has reached a rolling boil, carefully pour the water into the mug.

MIX all ingredients until honey has dissolved. Garnish with lemon peel and/or cinnamon stick.  Sip and repeat!
